Nippon Dynawave Packaging Announces Matt Peerboom’s Planned Retirement

LONGVIEW, WASH. November 2, 2026 – Nippon Dynawave Packaging (NDP) announced today that Matt Peerboom will retire as President effective November 3, 2026. Yusuke Mano, the company’s Senior Vice President of Finance, will step in to temporarily fulfill the duties of President on an interim basis.
Peerboom had planned to retire earlier this year. He postponed those plans after the May 26 incident so he could help lead the company’s response and recovery.
“With employees back at the mill and meaningful progress made toward a return to operations, it is time for me to follow through on my original retirement plans,” said Peerboom. “It has been a privilege to lead Nippon Dynawave and work alongside the people who make this mill what it is. I am grateful for my time here, the relationships I have built and the dedication our employees bring to their work.”
“On behalf of Nippon Dynawave, I thank Matt for his leadership and for extending his time with the company during an exceptionally difficult period for our employees and the Longview community. We wish him and his family the very best in retirement,” said Interim President Yusuke Mano.
Together, Mano and the NDP leadership team will provide continuity for its employees and the mill. The company remains focused on employee safety, a responsible return to operations, and full cooperation with the agencies investigating the May 26 incident.

Nippon Dynawave Announces Limited Return to Work and Extends Pay for Longview Employees Through January 17, 2027

LONGVIEW, WASH. October 2, 2026 – Nippon Dynawave Packaging (NDP) announced that it will continue paying Longview mill employees through January 17, 2027.
The extension covers employees while NDP, in coordination with the agencies overseeing the site, completes removal of the impacted tank and other out-of-service equipment. The return to work, with limited exceptions, continues the necessary steps to bring operations back online.
NDP appreciates the role of union leadership in consistently advocating for protecting jobs, preserving income for employees and benefits for their families, and maintaining a skilled workforce in Longview.

Nippon Dynawave Packaging Statement on CSB Preliminary Assessment

We are deeply disappointed by today’s release of an initial update into the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board’s (CSB) investigation, which failed to include important facts and context regarding actions taken by NDP and the timeline of events before the May 26 incident.
The CSB’s update is an initial step in an investigative process that can take up to two years to complete; it is not a final determination of the facts or cause.
We hope that all agencies share our commitment to allowing a full investigative process to proceed and establish a complete and accurate record before conclusions are reached. We will continue to communicate transparently with the investigating regulatory agencies.
Because the investigation remains ongoing, we will not comment on individual findings or documents at this time.
Our focus remains on supporting affected families and employees, and taking the necessary steps toward a safe, responsible path forward for the Longview facility.
NDP Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Thorough, Factual Investigation of May 26 Incident

Nippon Dynawave Packaging is actively supporting the ongoing independent investigations by the Chemical Safety Board and the Washington Department of Labor and Industries to determine the root cause of the tragic May 26 incident.
At this time, we will not speculate about the root cause without the full facts. Doing so would be a disservice to our committed employees and to the families still mourning the loss of their loved ones.
We share the commitment to fully understanding what occurred, and to publishing factual information with all relevant context in order to help prevent future tragedies.
Operations and Employee Compensation Update
July 2, 2026 | 2:30 PM PDT
The Nippon Dynawave Longview facility continues to operate at very limited capacity as cleanup, recovery, and investigations proceed following the May 26 incident. The vast majority of normal mill operations remain suspended while we cooperate fully with federal and state agencies on site.
On July 1, Unified Command concluded the emergency response and transitioned ongoing recovery activities to Nippon Dynawave Packaging. Recovery work will continue in coordination with state and federal investigators and regulatory agencies.
We want our employees and their families to know: Nippon Dynawave will continue to compensate all employees unable to work as a result of the shutdown through August 8. We are committed to keeping our workforce informed as the situation evolves, and we will post updates here as new information becomes available.

LONGVIEW, WASH. July 17, 2026 – Nippon Dynawave Packaging Co., Ltd. (NDP) announced that it will continue to provide full compensation to all employees unable to work as a result of the partial shutdown at its Longview, Washington facility through October 11th, 2026, extending its previous commitment to support affected workers and their families.
The extension comes as the facility operates at very limited capacity while cleanup, recovery, and investigations continue following the May 26 incident. The majority of normal mill operations remain suspended, and NDP continues to cooperate fully with federal and state agencies on site.
