Nippon Dynawave Packaging Statement on CSB Preliminary Assessment

We are deeply disappointed by today’s release of an initial update into the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board’s (CSB) investigation, which failed to include important facts and context regarding actions taken by NDP and the timeline of events before the May 26 incident.
The CSB’s update is an initial step in an investigative process that can take up to two years to complete; it is not a final determination of the facts or cause.
We hope that all agencies share our commitment to allowing a full investigative process to proceed and establish a complete and accurate record before conclusions are reached. We will continue to communicate transparently with the investigating regulatory agencies.
Because the investigation remains ongoing, we will not comment on individual findings or documents at this time.
Our focus remains on supporting affected families and employees, and taking the necessary steps toward a safe, responsible path forward for the Longview facility.
NDP Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Thorough, Factual Investigation of May 26 Incident

Nippon Dynawave Packaging is actively supporting the ongoing independent investigations by the Chemical Safety Board and the Washington Department of Labor and Industries to determine the root cause of the tragic May 26 incident.
At this time, we will not speculate about the root cause without the full facts. Doing so would be a disservice to our committed employees and to the families still mourning the loss of their loved ones.
We share the commitment to fully understanding what occurred, and to publishing factual information with all relevant context in order to help prevent future tragedies.
Operations and Employee Compensation Update

The Nippon Dynawave Longview facility continues to operate at very limited capacity as cleanup, recovery, and investigations proceed following the May 26 incident. The vast majority of normal mill operations remain suspended while we cooperate fully with federal and state agencies on site.
On July 1, Unified Command concluded the emergency response and transitioned ongoing recovery activities to Nippon Dynawave Packaging. Recovery work will continue in coordination with state and federal investigators and regulatory agencies.
We want our employees and their families to know: Nippon Dynawave will continue to compensate all employees unable to work as a result of the shutdown through August 8. We are committed to keeping our workforce informed as the situation evolves, and we will post updates here as new information becomes available.
